Hello

I'm Ben Leatham, an independent consultant providing advice and support to charities, NGOs, international organisations and social enterprises dedicated to making meaningful change.

Whether you need support managing a programme, building partnerships or developing a strategy, I can help.

My Story

Presenting at the launch of "Mental Health at Work"

Born and raised in Hong Kong, I've always had a passion for creating change. Whether it was as President of my Students' Union, as a volunteer mentor to a ten year old in London, or as a Charity Programme Manager, every role I've taken on has been driven by a desire to improve people's lives, and been approached through a strategic lens, making sure I have the greatest impact possible.

My experience spans the local, national and international, from managing relationships with schools in Hackney to launching the first grassroots-led, global mental health campaign at the UN General Assembly. I love working in

teams and particularly enjoy coming up with solutions to tricky problems.

Both mental health and digital have underpinned my career. I am interested in continuing to explore these themes, as well as applying my skills and experiences to new issues and challenges.

Outside of work I can be found bouldering, cycling, or on a long, long walk in the countryside, ideally accompanied by a dog.

Past Experience

Developed and launched Mental Health at Work, an innovative website that helps employers and employees find the resources and support they need.

Funded by The Royal Foundation, the programme involved brand and website development, stakeholder engagement, communications, and ongoing evaluation.

The website is now heavily utilised by workers and organisations across the UK, with over 500 resources available to access.

UNITED
FOR GLOBAL MENTAL HEALTH

Campaigned for greater action on mental health around the world in partnership with NGOs and businesses, and launched a global workplace mental health campaign.

I joined United for Global Mental Health as their 9th employee, managing partnerships with Human Rights Watch, World YMCA, WEF and Dear Evan Hansen (the Broadway musical).

This included developing and implementing a stakeholder engagement strategy for World Mental Health Day, coordinating the involvement of partners at our campaign launch event at the UN General Assembly, and the creation of a campaign launch video featuring global political leaders and activists.

Developed and launched The Global Business Collaboration for Better Workplace Mental Health, an initiative, spearheaded by eight multinationals, that works to raise the profile of mental health, generate commitment pledges and equip business leaders with the tools they need to enact change.

STUDENT MINDS

Programme managed Student Space, a nationwide support service for students providing information, advice and 1:1 support.

This involved coordinating a team of eight, overseeing website development, design, communications, content, stakeholder engagement, insight generation, reporting and budgeting.

As part of the role, I managed the commissioning of eight additional services for different student groups, including trans

students, black students and working-class students.

Due to the success of the programme and a robust proposal, funding for Student Space was extended for an additional eight months.

PEACE OF MIND AFGHANISTAN

Partnerships and Strategy consultant, supporting with strategy development, grant applications, project planning and training delivery.

Following the fall of Kabul, the mental health needs of the Afghanistan population rose dramatically, and the ability to meet this need became significantly more difficult. I have supported POMA with strategically re-aligning itself, and with securing funding for much needed grass-root projects. â€‹

THE KIDS NETWORK

Interim Manager for the Hackney programme, managing fifty volunteer mentors, overseeing safeguarding and building relationships with schools.

Following my own experience of mentoring with The Kids Network, I provided interim cover for their work in Hackney. This involved wide-ranging data analysis to understand the current programme status and the implementation of new processes to ensure deliverables remained on track.
